Brown Bear

Brown Bear

Katmai Coast - Geographic Harbor, Alaska

Brown bears are true omnivores. You can find them grazing on sedge flats or fishing for salmon or scavenging along the sea coast for washed up marine life and invertebrates. The high rocky cliffs along portions of the coast are no barriers to hungry bears. You can find them almost anywhere. This one is navigating the cliffs and pounding surf in search of food. The Katmai coast is one of the wildest landscapes on earth. Hewn by volcanic and ocean forces, wind and ice. It takes a truly adoptable animal to thrive here and Alaska brown bears are rulers of this domain.

After I took this photo the bear leaped into the churning water and swam a mile to an offshore island. No doubt the bear knew some food source of value could be found there. Watching this was an inspiring moment for all of us onboard the boat. These bear trips always surprise with unique sightings such as this.

I will be visiting the Katmai bears again this summer and hopefully, we will be rewarded with exceptional opportunities as we have had in the past. I still have a few openings on my summer trip, perhaps you would like to join me. Here’s a link to the expedition page about this trip.

Embrace the journey!
