Grey Wolf, Katmai

Grey Wolf

Katmai National Park, Alaska

I can’t tell you how rewarding it was to wait patiently with a small group of photographers for this wolf to wake from a nap.  Of course, she knew we were there but our approach was slow and deliberate. When we got within a good shooting position we knelt in the sand behind our cameras and waited.  The wolf rested for maybe 30 minutes not being disturbed by our presence.

It was a mesmerizing experience for all of us.  Afterward, she wandered near the cliffs in no hurry to leave.  We photographed this beautiful creature until she climbed up the cliff and went out of sight.  More than a year later as I write this I still remember how lucky I felt to have such an amazing experience.

Embrace the journey.
