Yellow-headed Blackbird
Montana
Posted: Apr 24, 2019
One of my favorite western birds is the Yellow-headed Blackbird, a beautiful bird that nests in the cattails around the edges of ponds. There are many areas in the US that you can visit and photograph these brightly colored singers. Some wildlife refuges have roads near the cattails. Using a window mount I can drive close to the birds and photograph them from my expensive blind which conveniently is also my truck.
I like to keep my shutter speed set to at least 1/1000 of a second when the birds are active or singing to ensure sharpness. On bright days I can use a lower ISO and stop my lens down to F8 to F11.
I’m looking forward to more bird photography this spring. I hope you find some time for this too.
Embrace the journey.
